Rudd became Oregon's honorary consul to Romania after first traveling there as a volunteer at a burn center for what is now Medical Teams International. The trip was inspired by a Romanian friend and a burn his son suffered as a child.

Rudd isn't Romanian, but like most things with which he seems to get involved, Rudd didn't let it go.

He now helps Romanians in Portland with anything from passport and visa requests to connecting with community members.
